Scratch Game Design

Hello everybody, I hope everyone is having a good Friday. Lets talk about what were are doing in Gt because it seems like a while since we started a new blogpost. We are currently doing coding and we already have 2 games already made which you guys can play. Im not quite finish with my chase game and I do have a couple bugs in my platform game but I am working on them. So for my chase game you use your arrow keys to move around and you have to try to avoid the ghost to earn points. With my platformer game you use the arrow key(up) to jump into the platforms. Yours trying to make the sprite get to the purple ball to move to the next level.

User experience influenced my chase game and also my platform game. Like for example, in my chase game, my sprite has different faces every time you choose a different arrow key. I reason why I wanted that in my chase game is because I thought it was cool how it looks in Mr. Sanderl's chase game and thought it would look good on my chase game. In my platformer game I saw that most people in my class had there platform move vertically instead of horizontally so I decided to do that because it seemed pretty easy and Im all about easy/simple stuff. I know I should be doing some more difficult coding but I just don't feel that comfortable doing pretty complex coding like the sixth graders, so I just stick with the easy stuff. However on my Operation Freedom game I do want to go past my comfort zone and try something more different and complex coding.

For my chase game I really like my sprites and how the sprite moves pretty smoothly. On my platformer game I like the background of the levels. So when you reach the purple ball, the background will change from a blue and white to a red and pink background. On both of my games the background is pretty simple and both games have moving sprites. But, unlike my platformer game the chase game only has one level. Another difference between those two different games is that in my platformer game you can jump and in my chase you can't.

My best code that I made was probably in my chase game. The code is making my Sprite move across the screen without rotating when you press a different arrow keys. I'm really proud of that code because when starting to make the chase game I absolutely was clueless. I didn't know where to start so when I made my Sprite walk I pretty proud of myself for completing that. I overcame my biggest difficult bugs by asking a sixth grader because they seem to know more than me. I also overcame it by asking my friend how to fix it. But what mostly help the most was the hamburger style critique we did in our GT class. Those help because I can see what I could improve on and tips or links that could easily help me. Coding is not really my favorite thing to do but it did make me think a lot, more thinking than I do in other classes and I believe I  liked that the most. I liked that with coding you have to think and once all that thinking is over and seeing what you have completed with it, it make me feel proud of what I just did.

Invention Commercial

Hello everybody, I'm gonna be explaining you about our new project so I hope you guys enjoy. So in GT, we have this new project about an invention commercial. We have the same teammates from the scavenger hunt, but if you don't know them yet they are Ashton, Ashley, and Denae. For this project, my team's main goal was to get everything finish on time. The reason I say this is because we got approve couple days later then the actual due date approval. Also considering that some of us were really busy so we couldn't really film that much. But overall we get everything done and finished on time.

While filming we had a lot of "team moments" but some weren't the best. Okay so one of the best "team moment" was when the second day we were filming and Ashton wore a different color shirt than usual. So we had to find something that maybe he could wear that would look similar to the clips we already had. But considering that we were a team of 3 girls and only 1 boy it was pretty hard to find something for Ashton to wear. Then we found this big puffy white jacket that was perfect for Ashton. Ashton called it "the man jacket". The best part was when he actually didn't haft to wear it because we actually re filmed the whole thing. Let me tell you that we laughed pretty hard because of this "team moment". That is just one of the "team moments" we had.

During our editing we had a lot of fun. Our team laughed a lot while editing which did sorta distract us from actually finish but we eventually did. Most of the editing was from me and Ashley. But Ashton and Denae did help out with finishing touches. We had a rotation where Ashley would edit first then me, third Denae, and finally Ashton. Since Ashton is new too editing we helped him and by we I mean mostly Ashley and Denae. The reason I didn't help him because Ashley and Denae were already telling him the things I would have told him. Overall I really like working with Ashton, Denae, and Ashley because we were so comfortable with each other and had a blast while filming!

Composition Scavenger Hunt

P3T4_Composition_2015 from Kapaa Middle School MEDIA on Vimeo.

Hey guys, so in GT we are learning some composition techniques and Im gonna be telling you which one I believe is the most important. Out of these 20 composition techniques I can't really chose which one is most important because there are more than one important one. But if I had to choose I believe rule of thirds (subject) is the most important one. The reason why is because it makes your video more balanced since it shows equal parts of ground, sky and your subject. Another reason why I believe this is the most important one because it also make your video more clean and simple (my opinion).

So just like my last paragraph I explain which one I think is most important, in this paragraph I'm gonna explain which one is the most difficult. For composition techniques, I do believe that is there is more of them that seem pretty difficult so I'm just gonna explain only one. I think repetition of shapes because there's not a lot of things that repeat around me. I can use repetition of shapes more often by trying to take some items that look the same and putting them together. Another way I wan use it more often is when I see something that is repetition of shapes, I could shoot something with it.

So in the video there are 4 people who are my teammates. We have 3 seventh grade girls including me and 1 sixth grade boy. My teammates are AshtonDenae, and Ashley and we are the only team of four considering we have such a big class. Ashton is a sixth grade boy that got stuck with 3 seventh grade girls for a project. He has blonde hair, 2 older brothers and 1 younger sister. Not forgetting to mention but he has these amazing blue eyes that I always seem to compliment him on. I figured that me, Ashley, and Denae are all jealous of his eyes but what can I say he has really great eyes. My other teammate is Denae but I do like to call her Lucy sometimes because that's what her family calls her and I like that name on her. Denae and I have something in common and it is that we have names that can be pronounce wrong. Denae has faded red hair at the ends and also wears glasses that are the color black and purple. Finally, my last teammate Ashley. She has these big brown very pretty eyes and also has blonde hair just like Ashton but darker. Just like how me and Denae have something in common, me and Ashley also have somthing in common. We both have the same middle name which is Marie. Ashley does gymnastics and that makes her very busy but that's Ashley for you.

I already introduced you to my teammates but I'll be explaining what they contributed on the video. Considering me and Ashley did a lot of the filming but Denae and Ashton did do most of the editing. Ashley did the voice overs at last minute but we still manage to finish somewhat on time. Like I said Ashton and Denae did do the editing but Ashley did do a lot of it because she's just the type of person to take charge. Ashton did the transitions and was in the video most of the time. Denae was also in the video and she added the clips in the right order. Ashley edited the clips and put in the our audio. Then it was me and I was the one who got to add in our text layovers and also be in the video. Together we all choose the music and imported together which did take part of our lunch time. This a the first group project of the year and I really like the group I had even though I wasn't there when choosing groups.
